I was helped by two of my brilliant colleagues:

  - @biktorrr noticed that from Figure 2 in the standard it can be deduced that the intended directionality is [2].
  - @raadjoe notices that the same directionality can be determined from [this paper](http://eprints.hud.ac.uk/id/eprint/28854/1/swj_temporal-revised.pdf).

I hope this issue can still be of some help to others who have the same question in the future.  (And it would not be wrong to use more descriptive labels, like [5]; although strictly speaking this is not necessary.)
