Krzysztof, Are you asking for this working group to go back and edit the final report and/or ontology published by the XG? I understand that is possible under W3 rules but you would need to coordinate with Phil for write access. Would you like to take that update task as an action? -Kerry From: Krzysztof Janowicz [mailto:janowicz@ucsb.edu] Sent: Wednesday, 25 January 2017 10:56 AM To: Kerry Taylor <kerry.taylor@anu.edu.au>; SDW WG Public List <public-sdw-wg@w3.org>; Armin Haller <armin.haller@anu.edu.au>; Phil Archer <phila@w3.org>; Cox, Simon (CESRE, Kensington) <Simon.Cox@csiro.au> Subject: Re: Access to DUL.owl ontology Sure – that refers to the old ssn of 2012 or so – kindly just point them to the ssn we have published in our WD. Yes, I always point them to the new version, but that is not the point here. The point is that our official deliverable of the old W3C XG SSN group points to an URI that does not exist anymore and this is why loading in the original SSN ontology that we published leads to an error message and this happens very frequently namely whenever somebody reads our 'Semantic Sensor Network XG Final Report' (https://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/ssn/XGR-ssn-20110628/) as this points them to the ontology at https://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/ssn/ssnx/ssn which imports the DUL URI that does not exist any longer and this has been a problem for a long time and this is what I said in the the call today. Currently, I'm working on an ontology definition aligned to Semantic Sensor Network Ontology (SSN)<http://purl.oclc.org/NET/ssnx/ssn>, which, in turn, is aligned to the Dolce Ultra-Lite upper ontology<https://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/ssn/wiki/SSN_Skeleton#Aligning_the_SSN_Ontology_and_the_core_SSO_design_pattern_with_DOLCE>. One can see<https://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/ssn/ssnx/ssn#Module_DUL> that in the SSN ontology spec, the DUL IRI namespace is: http://www.loa-cnr.it/ontologies/DUL.owl However, it seems that this "link is broken", due that the IRI doesn't point the the proper DUL.owl definition. I'm trying to see/generate a data model visualization of SSN via the tool WebVOWL (Web-based Visualization of Ontologies)<http://vowl.visualdataweb.org/webvowl.html>. For this, I'm following this IRI: http://vowl.visualdataweb.org/webvowl/#iri=http://purl.oclc.org/NET/ssnx/ssn However, it fails due that it cannot find/retrieve DUL's definition: { Could not load imported ontology: <http://www.loa-cnr.it/ontologies/DUL.owl> Cause: Problem parsing http://www.loa-cnr.it/ontologies/DUL.owl Could not parse ontology. } Questions: * Is there any standard way to handle this "broken link" when aligning to upper ontologies? * Should DUL.owl be fixed? * Should SSN address this situation "somehow"? * If I'm aligning to SSN, how I should address this situation? Thank you for your feedback. /$¡rm Best regards, Sergio José Rodríguez Méndez (羅士豪) Pervasive Embedded Technologies Laboratory (PET Lab) Computer Science Department National Chiao Tung University -- Krzysztof Janowicz Geography Department, University of California, Santa Barbara 4830 Ellison Hall, Santa Barbara, CA 93106-4060 Email: jano@geog.ucsb.edu<mailto:jano@geog.ucsb.edu> Webpage: http://geog.ucsb.edu/~jano/ Semantic Web Journal: http://www.semantic-web-journal.net
