RE: [2015-03-14] Minutes

I noticed this in the minutes:

KarlG_: noticed that OWL Time ontology is not an existing technology
eparsons: no one has come forward to present on the topic, therefore it has not been included

I had raised this with Kerry (because I have proposed an extension to OWL-Time to deal with non-gregorian calendars) but was told it was out of scope for this meeting, which is focussing on use-cases.

I won't be in Barcelona, but Jeremy Tandy can present on my behalf if necessary.

Issues around work to be done at f2f

eparsons: next item, spend remainder of call on the issues for
    F2F in Barcelona
... main order of activities to go through use cases, package
them and group then in similar areas
... common requirements for best practicies in terms of
    technology scope
    ... looking at those technologies
... Yolanda has set out an agenda for gathering use cases

    <phila> [9]Yolanda's e-mail

       [9]
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-sdw-wg/2015Mar/0005.html

<YolandaGil> The organization of use cases for the W3C
    Provenance XG is described in
    [10]http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-sdw-wg/2015Mar/0

    005.html

      [10]
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-sdw-wg/2015Mar/0005.html

YolandaGil: proposed an agenda for the Provenance Incubator
    Group
... how could we describe or highlight another use case and
    manage the contributions?
... so setting out a plan as described in the W3C Provenance XG
document and the email sent to the list the strategy for
accepting contributions and also managing contributions
... use cases are important to communicate
... create 3 sythensizing scenarios (flagship) ideas
    ... 1) general web scenario , 2) science, 3) contracts and
    industry setting
... has a team of curators who worked with the authors of the
    use cases
... highlight what the editors are after
... navigate through use cases to see what they highligh
... use curation as a mechanism for arriving at the threee
flagship scenarios... this enables the group to work more
    effectively.

eparsons: useful input and overlapping with the scoping
    questions
... how long did the curation process take?

YolandaGil: about 2 or 3 months total
... this work can be combined with other work
... began to do other tasks in parallel

eparsons: opening them up for questions
... useful for gathering and managing use cases

ChrisLittle: when you were curating use cases, was it easy to
extract underlying structure or was it more intensive task?

YolandaGil: that was something that was constructed as a group
... once you abstract away from the use case into the flagship
scenarios they become the groups scenarios as oppose to
    personal use cases

lewismc: is there a template for gathering use cases?

YolandaGil: yes, the template has dimensions which represent
    the spatial domain
... representation was something the use cases describe, but
also where the data should be stored
... 3rd topic was how a user interprets data
... maybe some template of a similar nature would be useful for
    this WG

eparsons: scoping mechanism is a good filter for use cases
... template to identify common characteristics from across use
    cases
... trial and error approach, we can iterate until we find a
    good fit

Agenda for F2F

eparsons: a number of individuals have put together what the
    agenda should look like
... think that the best manner to approach is to split in to
groups then take one requirement for each group
... spend most of the day doing that with break for 1pm for
    lunch
... after lunch come together to derive common characteristics
... towards end of day run lightning talks for technologies
    overview
    ... hard stop at 5:30PM
... would appreciate some input on how to define subgroups
... opening up to questions and comments for the agenda?

KarlG_: noticed that OWL Time ontology is not an existing
    technology

eparsons: no one has come forward to present on the topic,
therefore it has not been included

<phila> Are you volunteering KarlG_ ?

KarlG_: associated question, many technology incl, GeoJSON have
deficiencies which may make their way into discussion

eparsons: lightning talks act to get everyone on to the same
    page.

<KJanowicz> IMHO the talks are just 'selected topics' not an
overview about all details and all relevant technologies

eparsons: will drill into more detail further down the line

KarlG_: will not be able to make it so cannot commit to a
    presentation

Linda_: ends at 5:30PM... is that not 6:30PM?

    eparsons: No

Linda_: topic discussed at the end, thought that the idea was
to look into general technologies which fit into the best
practicies as oppose to other technologies outside of that
    immediate scope

eparsons: lightning talks are only meant to getting everyone on
the same page, they do not represent an exclusive list
... F2F meeting organizers are going to make use of GoToMeeting
software for remote participants to participate as fully as
    possible

<JoshLieberman> When you click on a GTM meeting link, it will
download the app at the time.

phila: minor point regarding bottom of agenda page, Kerry will
be finding a place where everyone can meet up
... location will be on the wiki shortly

eparsons: F2F next week will be no telecon, week after will be
    review of F2F

phila: suggests reading long list of use cases prior to F2F
... please check for day light savings time
... U.S. is changing DST, so please keep an eye

billroberts: not going to be able to join the F2F,
... is it possible to submit some 'homework'

eparsons: please put all on to the public list
... template ideas, general groupings, etc
... all to the public list
... these can then be taken to the F2F

ChrisLittle: was trying quite hard to get a health use case
... possibly produce a health use case

<phila> I added a medical use case this eve on behalf of Erich
Bremer who has joined the group

<JoshLieberman> There are demographic use cases with same
    characteristic

eparsons: use cases gathering task will end shortly so getting
them in soon enough would be great

Linda_: upon review of use case, they all seem to be public or
    government... with no private

eparsons: I have added some private ones... it is important to
    include these

Conclusions
