I think if you believe the data about your life should be acquired by
others at your cost (ie: it's not really free, you're paying them to buy
the (H/W, connectivity, software,et.al) technology ) then well...

I remember playing with Bulletin board systems.  I think the business model
of operating them was to get two phone-lines, connect a fax to one, offer a
dial-in service on the other where a form could be downloaded to supply
credit card details which could be sent to the fax line, and provide enough
funds to the bbs to support it in buying another phoneline.

back then of course; telco's were making heaps of cash of ISDN - so later,
down the track, they really didn't like this cheaper 'ADSL' alternative...

I think; naive is amongst the kindest terms that can be used for people who
believe these efforts are 'pointless' or not in the worlds economic
interests to get to market, effectively, asap.

yet; i also understand it is a very, highly specialised area.  As i've
found out recently; even mapping out the toilets in a manner that can help
people find them, is far more complicated than i thought it would or should
be...

but if it's done right - might have a positive impact on public health ;)

the simple things...
