Following my action from this week's telecon (Action-330) I have updated the Arch/DataSets page [1] to reflect the discussion at both F2F6 and the telecon. I've restructured the page to split the problem into three pieces instead of two - data set identification, data model identification and data model usage. Originally I took my remit to be the first two of those but discussions have tended to focus on the last one. I've tweaked the metadata example to drop rif:format (I could explain and argue about that if anyone cares). I've tweaked the hierarchy of data model classes in the metadata ontology to (a) include RIF as a data model (b) reflect my answer to Jeff about RDFS as a subclass of OWL/full, (c) replace OWL with OWLFull since that's the only OWL fragment which got a first choice vote at f2f6, (d) drop relational models (again referring back to the f2f6 vote) In the section on "data model usage" I've tried to reflect the options raised at the telecon. I'll put my take on those options in a separate email since the Wiki doesn't seem the right place for a discussion. **NOTE** (1) The framing part is just as important as the discussion part. It would be perfectly legitimate for the WG to decide any or all of these are non-issues and not cater for them, or not in this phase. So think about whether you think we need a solution at all, not just about the specific solution. For example, the "data set identification" problem is in there just because Christian mentioned it at F2F5 - we could decide we don't care about that. (2) If anyone wants to take over ownership of this area feel free. I've no particular need myself for this machinery and so am basing the suggestions on abstract thought rather than practical need.
