Re: RIF: A thought about requirements --> PRR

Oracle is here hoping for a standard for reactive rules. We have 2 products - one in our middleware suite called Oracle Business Rules -- a production rule system. Another in our database called Rule Manager -- an ECA system.

We are blessed with a number of standards in the query language space and aren't that keen to see another. On the other hand, we are open to a RIF that could make it easier to access database data (but most of it is neither RDF nor XML).

We have no products AFAIK that are based on logic programming (our DB views aren't recursive). We are open to a standard that combines logic rules and reactive rules if it can improve our business rule product. This is where an applications focus can help. I'd like to see some use cases and say "yes, I think that's an important capability that busines analysts can't address very well using production rules or decision tables but logic rules make it really easy".

Cheers,
   Gary
