PhD 2001 in Mathematics, Cork, Ireland (bordering theoretical computer
science and AI/logic programming semantics)

2001-2004 Postdoc, AI Institute Dresden, Germany

Since 2004 at Rudi Studer's group, University of Karlsruhe, Germany.

My research interests are broad and range from categorical and other
foundations of CS and AI to KRR topics, neural-symbolic integration, and
- certainly - all kinds of logical/reasoning issues in the Semantic Web
vicinity. I'm at home both with the logical foundations and semantics of
OWL/SWRL *and* with the intricate semantic issues accompanying logic
programming paradigms.

For Rudi Studer's group, I'm leading the activities in several semantic
web projects, and I'm further leading activities across a couple of more
projects - whenever reasoning issues are involved.

-- what you expect to get out of this WG

I believe that we need a simple core paradigm (as I read the charter,
this is to be defined in Phase 1), and then (in Phase 2) reality
constraints will call for a few independent paradigms which extend the
core paradigm. I believe that one of them should be intimately
compatible with OWL and its predicate logic semantics. I believe that
another one should be based on a logic programming paradigm of some sort.

-- what you hope/expect to contribute.

My interest is probably primarily in Phase 2. I hope to utilise some of
the Karlsruhe momentum to provide prototype implementations for some
paradigm - depending on the paradigm, certainly, and to get involved in
other WG activities as independent constraints allow.
