Worth noting that as per the RFC-to-be 5988 'Web Linking' [1], which covers 'edit' 'next' 'alternative' and all the common HTML rel's: "Registered relation type names MUST conform to the reg-rel-type rule, and MUST be compared character-by-character in a case-insensitive fashion."
