Well, you have to go find the actual triple to do that. It involves another GET and some processing. But yes, using a (literal or other) name to refer to the triple does not get you the actual triple. On the other hand, using the same SPO  in a different place does not get you the original triple token, so you can’t add information about a triple in one graph using a triple in a different graph (which I understand is important for some folk), but once you have a name for it, you can.

But what I was proposing was not so much a replacement for <<SPO>> as a way (perhaps just ‘theoretical’) to think of it as sugar for a piece of conventional RDF, to help clarify its semantics and settle some of the discussions about corner cases.

Point taken. I agree there are many advantages to having the annotated triple as part of the annotations, rather than just referred to by them.
