Yes, that's correct.

There will be a fixed namespace, but it's actually already defined in
the @role spec [1] which was owned by the HTML Working Group when it
existed. :) The namespace is set to the normal XHTML namespace
(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml).

As you probably know, at one point @role was only available in the
XHTML 2 spec, and the attribute was at that time in a different
namespace, which means that there are references to @xh2:role out in
the wild. (See [2] as well as the sample code at [3].)
