I'd like to suggest the following query for the query example in the document "SPARQL 1.1 Overview" PREFIX foaf: <http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/> SELECT ?name (COUNT(?friend) AS ?count) WHERE { ?person foaf:name ?name . foaf:knows ?friend . } GROUP BY ?person ?name This shows more of SPARQL 1.1. Query and does not use FROM.
