Neither R2RML nor the Direct Mapping currently specify how exactly SQL types are mapped to RDF.

To address this, a careful comparison of standard SQL types and XSD types is required.

Part of this problem is the question of vendor-specific types. Most databases use vendor-specific types. Their treatment (even if it is: ignore these columns) has to be specified.
