The XML Schema datatype spec was informed largely by SQL-heads in XQuery, giving us pretty good confidence that SQL's expressivity needs are well-met by XML. Per http://www.w3.org/TR/2004/REC-rdf-concepts-20040210/#section-use-xsd RDF (and SPARQL, OWL, etc) defer to XDM datatypes. I expect that a survey of SQL data types would be redundant with work done by XML Schema and ISO. Instead, I think we should keep our eyes open, and report any missing datatypes to the ISO SQL group for inclusion in the upcoming ISO SQL spec §9.5 (attached) for "Mapping SQL data types to XML Schema data types". If we do find it necessary to use this spec to complement XDM, then we could cite it normatively in our output. /me hands issue to JimM... -- -ericP
