I made the editorial change you suggested.  In fact, the two signatures
make the argument optional.  If it is not 

supplied the context node is assumed.

Functions and Operators, Section 14.1.9 fn:root definition is unclear. 

"If $srcval is a document node, it is returned", should read "If $srcval
is a document node, $srcval is returned" ?

Why aren't $srcval and the return node both optional ?
