Dear colleagues,
I would like to propose to standardize EPUB accessibility
1.1 at ISO/IEC as a standalone specification, after W3C
publishes it as a W3C Note. In other words, it should be
detached from EPUB 3.0 or 3.1.
There are three reasons:
- As I wrote in another e-mail, I am concerned about
creating an ISO/IEC Technical Specification (and
International Standard) from EPUB 3.1.
- EPUB Accessibility is applicable to any EPUB
publication, even if the content conforms to EPUB 2
or EPUB 3.0.
- Although EPUB Accessibility 1.0 is a part of
EPUB 3.1, we would rather like to promote upcoming
EPUB Accessibility 1.1
To standardize EPUB accessibility 1.1 as an ISO/IEC
technical specification, we have to use the normal process.
First, a new work item proposal has to be submitted to JTC1.
Second, a Draft Technical Specification has to be created and
sent out for ballot. I hope to finish the New Work Item Proposal
in the ISO/IEC JTC1/SC34/JWG7 meeting in Tokyo. I am wiling
to help by becoming a project editor and a New Work Item Proposal
submitter.
Regards,
ISO/IEC JTC1/SC34/WG4 Convenor
Head of Delegation of the Japanese SC34 mirror
Makoto
