Creation of audio books from EPUB

Dear Liisa, Rick, and All,

The DAISY Pipeline is an open-source, cross-platform framework for the
automated processing of digital content
<https://daisy.org/activities/software/pipeline/> ; it was started decades
ago as a services to the libraries serving persons with disabilities. It
originally was designed to guarantee that content could be moved forward as
the technologies changed. Because the first implementations of DAISY were
around audio books, there has always been a commitment to the Digital
Talking Book. However, the DAISY pipeline has evolved and supports EPUB 3
and other formats.

The Microsoft Low-Cost Assistive Technology
<https://daisy.org/activities/projects/microsoft-low-cost-assistive-technolo
gy/> project, funded by Microsoft integrated the Microsoft Azure voices
into the DAISY Pipeline. It integrated the Microsoft voices into a
conversion that took a DAISY XML file as input and generated the MP3 files
for playback on a range of devices.

There are 32 conversions in the tool today and a few more are under
development. A few that I thought would be of interest are:
EPUB 3 Validator
EPUB Upgrader
EPUB to DAISY (TTS Enhanced)
EPUB 3 to DAISY 3 23 of 33
DAISY 3 to navigable MP3 file-set 10 of 33

Avneesh is the manager for the DAISY Pipeline project, and he can provide
more information.
Best
George
