Publishing Industry Infrastructure support from the DAISY Consortium

Dear SC,

As part of our information sharing, I want to get one item before you. I
don't think we need to discuss it too much on January 8, but I do want to
make you aware.

The DAISY Consortium has been providing to the publishing industry some
valuable services, which includes Ace, the accessibility checker for EPUB,
and the services of Matt as editor. Also, we have the contract for
EPUBCheck, and our efforts to get donations for this have been difficult. In
2021 DAISY plans to initiate an activity to ask for funding from key
organizations in the industry. For example: Publisher associations (AAP,
IPA, FEP, JPA, ++) Distributors (Google, Kobo, Apple, Amazon, VitalSource,
RedShelf, ++)

We already have the Inclusive Publishing partners program in place for
individual publishers and vendors of publishing services, so we would not be
approaching them.

We hope this initiative could replace the fund raising the SC has been doing
for EPUBCheck, which IMO has been difficult. Of course, we would need
letters of support from the community to encourage the organizations we plan
to approach. For example, when approaching the AAP, we would ask for letters
of support from publishers in that organization.

Climb on

George
