Sorry – I meant epubcheck.w3.org as a possible replacement for validator.idpf.org (sheesh even I was confusing epubtest and epubtest there for a minute, sigh). Anyway name aside, how and where to host a definitive instance of the validator is of course just one minor piece of the whole epubcheck refresh project... this was just a “for instance” hypothetical. --Bill From: Bill McCoy <bmccoy@w3.org> Sent: Wednesday, June 6, 2018 8:05 AM To: 'Siegman, Tzviya' <tsiegman@wiley.com>; 'AUDRAIN LUC' <LAUDRAIN@hachette-livre.fr>; 'Ivan Herman' <ivan@w3.org>; 'Dave Cramer' <dauwhe@gmail.com> Cc: 'W3C Publishing Steering Committee' <public-publishing-sc@w3.org>; 'Rick Johnson' <Rick.Johnson@vitalsource.com> Subject: RE: epubtest.com domain (was Re: Interesting....) Hi Tzivya, Karen and I discussed w/ W3C Comm team and within W3C management at the time of the combination and the conclusion was that we wanted to build community at w3.org/publishing and not manage additional separate sites. Someday we might have subdomains, e.g. epubtest.w3.org as replacement for validator.idpf.org but we want w3.org to be the hub for new info and we didn’t have the resources to maintain the most likely suspect for ongoing use, epubzone.org, or keep idpf.org “current”, and there was concern this would be dilutive to the spirit of the combination as well as confusing in practice. I don’t see any reason to revisit this analysis now, do you? Separately we want to make sure not to lose any content and don’t impair 3rd party SW that may be pinging URIs referenced in old specs but archival is not Comm responsibility, it’s something between Ralph & me and perhaps Sys Team at W3C (of course that we failed to renew epubzone.org domain is still a black eye re: this even if we hadn’t wanted to continue to operate it, mea culpa).
