Though he hasn't been active on the EPUB front, Bill Rosenblatt would be an
ideal expert on this. He was instrumental in the development of LCP for
Readium.

It still makes me a bit dizzy to think of NISO forging ahead on something
like this without involving the W3C. Or is there some approach or
involvement I'm not aware of?
