I am writing today on behalf of one of the Task Forces I am involved with at the W3C; specifically the Pronunciation Task Force<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2FWAI%2Fpronunciation%2F&data=04%7C01%7Ciali%40ets.org%7C3df7c35b67e24cfbc13208d915ff6418%7C0ba6e9b760b34fae92f37e6ddd9e9b65%7C0%7C0%7C637565008937618950%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=C3HUx2kGnw0aJscIkscLItgFvKYyro6VcH9MeaIFTeU%3D&reserved=0>. Simply put, we are seeking a way of encoding pronunciation 'rules' int othe HTML, so that screen readers can either pronounce words properly (e.g. the "T" at the end of my name is silent), or to differentiate appropriate pronunciations (is READ pronounced 'reed' or 'red'?) Howard, one of the key drivers of this activity is focused around the EDU vertical, with a strong backing from ETS (Educational Testing Services). While our spec is still quite immature today (we're looking to settle on one of two technical approaches over the next few weeks) we firmly believe this will be of both interest and value to the core constituents of Accessing Higher Ground (file under Emergent Tech). As such, we are quite interested in getting our messaging out to a larger audience via AHG, and we'd love to submit a proposal to you for a 'speaking slot'. However, we noted today on our call that the deadline for submissions is, erm... today. While we have all the makings of an "Introduction" style presentation, I was wondering/hoping if I could perhaps reach out to you and seek a bit of an extension on the submission date, to give us enough time to put together a more formal proposal. Can I be so bold as to request a week? With fingers crossed, I thank you in advance and look forward to chatting more soon. Thanks!
