Vinod, I agree with Carl. The word "point" in POI suggests a position in space/time. While a particular book title and the class (in an object oriented sense) of the book (i.e. a particular edition "Art_of_Computer_Programming") is not an instance and can't have a location, one of the 4 surviving copies of the Magna Carta which is on Display in the British Library in London, can certainly be a POI. Same for movies. A particular showing of "The_Social_Network" at a set time in a defined movie theatre would be a POI--an address where one could meet or just go to do the film, but not the conceptualisation meant when you ask "have you seen The Social Network." That is broad enough. As for categories, the geospatial community has dealt with categories (taxonomies, classification schemes, etc) related to location for a long time. Typically categories are handled by reference because a location can have many associated categories. Personally, I would not even consider trying to define categories or a world categorization schema. Their are domains of experts that have defined taxonomies and classification schemes for their domains of interest, such as TDWG for botony, OneGeology for geological structures and lithology, and WMO for meteorology. All of these domain related categories could be categories associated with a location.
