Truly sorry about my recent silence, I've been juggling perhaps too many projects over the last weeks. I totally agree with Thomas that whatever model we choose should at allow the and point of communication (typically the client device) to do the filtering and aggregation. If, for certain operations, that turns out to be too heavy it should be easy to build an "aggregation proxy", perhaps as a stepping stone until compute power and bandwidth at the end point increase as technology once more improves.
