Steve, I did some testing with VoiceOver in Safari 9 on OS X 10.10 Yosemite. Legend is spoken when I navigate to the fieldset or legend, but not when focused on a radio button. If I make the radio’s in your example checkbox, nothing changes. —Michiel > On 16 Nov 2015, at 16:32, Gunderson, Jon R <jongund@illinois.edu> wrote: > > Steve, > > I have done some more testing with NVDA, it seems that the grouping label using fieldset/legend is not read consistently, but it is not simple to identify when it won’t. > > Jon > > From: Gunderson, Jon R [mailto:jongund@illinois.edu] > Sent: Monday, November 16, 2015 8:54 AM > To: Steve Faulkner <faulkner.steve@gmail.com> > Cc: PF <public-pfwg@w3.org> > Subject: RE: Checkbox example for ARIA Authoring practices issues > > Steve, > > I did some more testing this morning, it seems the problem is related to the type of form controls inside the fieldset/legend. > > For NVDA 2015.3 it reads the grouping label (e.g. legend) when the input types are radio button, but not when the input types are a checkbox. > > But I think there needs to be more testing to verify the exact behavior. > > Jon > > > From: Steve Faulkner [mailto:faulkner.steve@gmail.com <mailto:faulkner.steve@gmail.com>] > Sent: Saturday, November 14, 2015 9:59 AM > To: Gunderson, Jon R <jongund@illinois.edu <mailto:jongund@illinois.edu>> > Cc: PF <public-pfwg@w3.org <mailto:public-pfwg@w3.org>> > Subject: Re: Checkbox example for ARIA Authoring practices issues > > > On 13 November 2015 at 18:39, Gunderson, Jon R <jongund@illinois.edu <mailto:jongund@illinois.edu>> wrote: > Fieldset/Legend technique for grouping label: > NVDA 2015.3 on Windows 10 with Firefox (version 42), Internet Explorer 11, Chrome (Version 46) > Grouping label not read for any browser > > I tested using same AT/browser combos on a different page: http://thepaciellogroup.github.io/AT-browser-tests/test-files/fieldset-legend.html <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__thepaciellogroup.github.io_AT-2Dbrowser-2Dtests_test-2Dfiles_fieldset-2Dlegend.html&d=BQMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=REZD8fc2AwufInstfW3L5jSLVS8bjZtAodDOhat7yAI&m=TN_-e7n4yZvb9kdamzV-6Wxal2bS2NW-vASzzSoIhns&s=zC9Ov5h2vnOL3NYYNkKLtSSLWztSRiRsMpPCcC8Zok4&e=> > If i arrowed through the content, the legend text was announced when it recieved virtual focus. > > If i tabbed to the radio buttons, the legend/feildset info was announced as below for all browsers: > > Which version of HTML do you use? grouping > HTML4 radio button not checked > > > -- > > Regards > > SteveF > Current Standards Work @W3C <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.paciellogroup.com_blog_2015_03_current-2Dstandards-2Dwork-2Dat-2Dw3c_&d=BQMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=REZD8fc2AwufInstfW3L5jSLVS8bjZtAodDOhat7yAI&m=TN_-e7n4yZvb9kdamzV-6Wxal2bS2NW-vASzzSoIhns&s=QYMEbgs9YU7ySkxFLrbyaUkSEdTaUlkhSwwLbCF0lGc&e=>
