Dear Charles, Leonie: Thank you for your reviews of the CSV specification: Review Request: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-pfwg/2015Apr/0204.html Leonie Watson: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-pfwg/2015May/0067.html Chaals Neville: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-pfwg/2015May/0069.html This spec and your comments were considered during the 13 May PF teleconference: https://www.w3.org/2015/05/13-pf-minutes.html#item06 As these minutes indicate, PF wishes to support your comments as PFWG comments, but with a caveat. If you have any comments, or disagree with the following statement, please indicate by end of business (Boston) on Thursday. This is a draft of a proposed PF statement to CSV on the Web WG. /draft/ Thank you for your request to PFWG to review your current CSV on the Web specifications. We have reviewed your drafts and the comments provided by two PFWG members [URIs]. The PFWG supports the comments you have individually received from our members with the following caveat: It is our understanding that the classic CSV data model would not require row labels, because CSV is not necessarily a data table. We understand column labels are required. However, our understanding is that each row in a CSV file provides the succession of fields in a database record, and that the first field is not necessarily a label for that row--just the first row in a record. However, we also understand that the CSV on the Web WG at the W3C is able to enhance the scope of CSV features. Therefore, if our understanding is faulty, or if your WG is expanding the scope of data communicated by the CSV format to include typical data tables, then row labels would indeed be necessary to support accessibility. /end.comment/ The above will be edited, most probably, but your reactions up front would be appreciated.
