Colleagues: On 11 February I took an action to review the FPWD at: http://www.w3.org/tr/audio-output/ Herewith some potential PF comments on this specification ... 1.) I believe PF should indicate our support for this effort, noting that our Media Accessibility User Requirements (MAUR) http://w3c.github.io/pfwg/media-accessibility-reqs/ enumerates the requirement to separately direct video description audio, and beyond that also screen reader TTS audio, to devices other than where the primary media resource's audio is directed. This would frequently mean 3 separate audio streams to 3 separate devices. 2.) We should ask whether the API, as proposed, is sufficiently robust to support this accessibility requirement. At a minimum, the text in the spec should indicate the potential for managing multiple audio streams to multiple devices, i.e. by use of the grammatical plural rather than the grammatical singular as is current. 3.) The proposed API provides support for sync loss and sync reacquisition, but does not appear to address whether timeline syncronization is re-established after some time of signal loss. It should be clear where the requirement to sync multiple streams is managed, and how a reqcuired signal will sync, rather than simply resuming from the position at signal loss.
