48-Hour Call for Consensus (CfC); Keep Longdesc Independent

Colleagues:

This is a Call for Consensus (CfC) to maintain the Image Description
(longdesc) HTML extension specification on the Recommendation track.
The most recent publication of this specification can be found at:

       http://www.w3.org/TR/html-longdesc/

The HTML-WG's plan 2014 [1] encouraged the creation of extension
specifications. In some cases these extension specifications have been
folded back into one of the current W3C HTML5 specifications. In this
case the recommendation is to take the Image Description extension
specification all the way to W3C recommendation status, and to keep it
separate from the underlying HTML5 specification.

This recommendation comes to the HTML-WG and the PFWG from the HTML-A11Y
Task Force whose decision on this matter is recorded here:

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2014Jan/0049.html

Please reply on list to this email with any objections or concerns.

Silence will be taken to mean there is no objection, but positive
responses are encouraged.

If there are no objections by 23:59 (Midnight) Boston Time Wednesday 29
January, this CfC will carry.

Janina
