Dear Web Payments Working Group Participants, In June we announced a decision [1] to request that Payment Request API advance to Proposed Recommendation. After some additional effort (especially by Marcos Caceres!) to align implementations and update the implementation report [2], today I requested [3] that the Director approval the advancement. I noted in the transition request that I had neglected to include mention of Payment Method Identifiers in the June call for consensus [4]. I apologize for the error. I believe that it has been this group’s intention to publish both of the specifications as Recommendations at the same time. Payment Request continued to evolve, but Payment Method Identifiers has been stable for several years, and thus I forgot to include it in the June CfC. In the transition request [3] I asked the Director to advance PMI, based on what I believe is a shared understanding by the Working Group. If you do not think that Payment Method Identifiers should advance to Recommendation along with Payment Request, please let me know on this thread before noon ET on Friday, 10 September.
