Could you put this on a Flows Task Force agenda? I think there are two resources that we will want to start to work on:

 - How to write a payment method specification
 - How to apply the API in a variety of scenarios. (see your use case above).

I think the task force should start to put those documents in our wiki so that we can add to them as use cases arise, and get support from the community that is attempting to use the API.
