Hello, This is an advance notice that the W3C Team is currently working on a charter for a Web Extensions Working Group: https://w3c.github.io/charter-drafts/2025/webextensions-wg.html Browser extensions have been available in the market since 1997 and W3C has attempted for years [1] to increase interoperability in this area. The mission of the Web Extensions Working Group is to specify the common core of cross-browser extension APIs. The charter was initially produced in the Web Extensions Community Group [2] and W3C Members saw a presentation at W3C’s Member meeting last year: Web Extensions at W3C by Simeon Vincent, Senior Developer Relations Engineer, Mozilla; co-chair of the W3C WebExtensions Community Group https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltB9zqu82wI More details are available at: https://github.com/w3c/strategy/issues/146 We welcome input and feedback on the draft charter. If you wish to make your comments public, you are welcome to raise issues at: https://github.com/w3c/charter-drafts/issues W3C Members may discuss on the member-confidential mailing list <w3c-ac-forum@w3.org>. If you should have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact Philippe Le Hégaret <plh@w3.org>. A formal Advisory Committee Review for this charter is expected in the second half of September 2025. This announcement follows section 4.1 of the Process Document https://www.w3.org/2023/Process-20231103/#WGCharterDevelopment Thank you, For Philippe Le Hégaret, VP, Technical Strategy; Coralie Mercier, Director of W3C Marketing & Communications [1] https://www.w3.org/TR/CX/ [2] https://www.w3.org/groups/cg/webextensions/ -- Coralie Mercier (she/her) - Director of W3C Marketing & Communications mailto:coralie@w3.org - https://www.w3.org/People/Coralie/
