Advance notice: Work in progress on Web Extensions Working Group Charter

Hello,

This is an advance notice that the W3C Team is currently working on a
charter for a Web Extensions Working Group:
  https://w3c.github.io/charter-drafts/2025/webextensions-wg.html

Browser extensions have been available in the market since 1997 and W3C has attempted for years [1] to increase interoperability in this area. The mission of the Web Extensions Working Group is to specify the common core of cross-browser extension APIs.

The charter was initially produced in the Web Extensions Community Group [2] and W3C Members saw a presentation at W3C’s Member meeting last year:

We welcome input and feedback on the draft charter. If you wish to make
your comments public, you are welcome to raise issues at:

W3C Members may discuss on the member-confidential mailing list
<w3c-ac-forum@w3.org>.

If you should have any questions or need further information, please
feel free to contact Philippe Le Hégaret <plh@w3.org>.

A formal Advisory Committee Review for this charter is expected in
the second half of September 2025.

This announcement follows section 4.1 of the Process Document
