Work in Progress on a W3C JSON-LD Working Group Charter (Advance Notice)

Hello,

The W3C Advisory Committee received an advance notice today that the W3C 
team invites input on the possible charter of a JSON-LD Working Group.

Following a session at TPAC2017 [1] and a discussion on the W3C Strategy 
team [2], and on request [3] of the JSON For Linking Data Community 
Group [4], work is now starting to explore the creation of a JSON-LD 
Working Group. The ensuing discussions in the Community Group have 
already led to a proposed draft charter:

The charter is focused on the Community Drafts produced by the Community 
Group:

     https://json-ld.org/spec/latest/json-ld/
     https://json-ld.org/spec/latest/json-ld-api/

which together represent an new, backward compatible version of the 
existing JSON-LD Recommendations [5,6], published in 2014. The TPAC 
presentation [1] gives an overview of the proposed changes, based on the 
experiences of an extensive use of JSON-LD by various communities since 
its original publication.

The Community Group [3] has already started to update the JSON-LD test 
suite [7] used for the Recommendations published in 2014 to include the 
new features, although the work is still ongoing. One of the reference 
implementations in Ruby has also been updated to reflect the latest 
Community Draft, with work starting on updating other implementations in 
Javascript, Python, etc.

We would welcome input and feedback before starting the formal review, 
planned for March 2018. Ideally, discussions should happen via issues 
raised on the charter's Github repository:

     https://github.com/json-ld/charter/issues

Alternatively, discussion can also happen on the (archived [8]) mailing 
list of the Community Group:

     public-linked-json@w3.org.

Members may also discuss on w3c-ac-forum@w3.org.
