This is an update on SVG charter review and notice of work in progress on an addition to the CSS charter: Despite efforts in 2016 to continue SVG work, the level of participation in the SVG Working Group has been insufficient and recent attempt to reframe the Working Group did not receive enough support. While work on the SVG2 specification has been really useful to improve the specification, the specification was ahead of implementations, without sufficient implementation experience to deploy those features on the Web. In addition, the attention of some of the relevant technical individuals has been split between the graphics efforts in the CSS Working Group and the SVG Working Group. W3C has been looking at potential alternatives since January and is asking the CSS Working Group if they would be willing to help with the maintenance of the SVG specification [1], since some of the Graphics expertise as well as the individuals involved would be helpful.
