Hello, The W3C Advisory Committee received an advance notice today that participants of the Automotive Working Group (WG) [1] is currently working on an updated charter. The group started operation in February 2015 following the incubative discussion by the Automotive and Web Platform Business Group (BG) [2]. The BG generated draft specifications of Vehicle Information Access API [3] and Vehicle Data [4] as BG Final Reports in December 2014. After that, the WG took over those BG Reports as the starting point of its standardization work, and published those documents as First Public Working Drafts in June 2015 and then as updated Working Drafts in January 2016 respectively. The group was originally planning to finalize the draft specifications and publish them as W3C Recommendations by the end of June 2016. However, a proposal on low-level service interface for accessing vehicle information came up instead of the high-level JavaScript APIs since TPAC 2015 in Sapporo after collaborative discussions with related groups and the TAG. Therefore the group had been discussing what would be the best direction within the group and concluded during the F2F meeting in Paris [5] that the group should try both the high-level JavaScript APIs and the low-level service interface to provide even more convenient options for Web application developers. The updated charter will continue the WG's existing work items as well as the new items proposed during the Paris meeting. The proposed items for the group are: * Vehicle Information Access API * Vehicle Data (in comparison with GENIVI's Vehicle Signal Specification) * Vehicle Information Service * Security and Privacy Among the above proposed items, the group will collaboratively work for the Vehicle Data topic with GENIVI to align the current data definition from GENIVI's Vehicle Signal Specification. The WG will continue close coordination with the BG, which works on Media Tuner, Location-based Service (LBS) and Security/Privacy. Specifically, the WG and the BG will continue strong collaboration on Automotive Security and Privacy by the joint Task Force. Effectively, the existing WG's charter [6] is extended until 30 September 2016, in order to cover the time needed for the rechartering process to complete. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact: Kaz Ashimura <ashimura@w3.org>. A formal Advisory Committee Review for the WG's updated charter will be in August 2016.
