Web Payments Charter(s) in Development (Advance Notice)

Hello,

Today the W3C Advisory Committee received an advance notice that the Web  
Payments Interest Group [1] is in the
very early stage of discussing charters related to Web Payments  
standardization.

Since its October 2014 launch, the Interest Group has discussed a variety
of topics including digital wallets, identity, authentication, security,  
credentials,
settlement, the regulatory landscape, and existing standards from ISO and  
other
organizations.

The group has taken an important step toward identifying key topics for  
standardization
through the recent publication of the FPWD of Web Payments Use Cases 1.0:

The group next meets face-to-face 16-18 June [3] where we will seek  
consensus on:

  a) a charter for a payments-specific Working Group to start in 2015.
  b) other technology needs that may have broader applicability than  
payments
      (e.g., for authentication or security) and where those discussions  
are taking place
      so that we can represent our needs to those communities.


The group has discussed a timeline [2] with the following milestones  
leading to the
launch of new groups by TPAC 2015:

* 16-18 June: The Interest Group meets Face-to-Face in New York [3] where  
it
   will prioritize topics for standardization. The group is expected to  
reach consensus
   on one or more charters that it will recommend to W3M.

   Note: We are also organizing a payments industry roundtable to
   connect with the New York financial industry, complementing our
   2014 Workshop in Paris [4] and subsequent gatherings in Paris,
   Berlin, and Beijing.

* 29 July: W3C Management approves draft charters for review by W3C  
Members.

* 3 August: Start Advisory Committee review of charters

* 28 September: Launch new group(s)

* 26-30 October: Group(s) hold first meeting at TPAC 2015
