Hi Stephane I have updated the 7.2.3 to expand pn the description of USSD to avoid linking to an external site for the explanation of USSD. (David Ashbrook may be adding some more content to this section) In 7.2.4 I have modified the cell broadcast section to address your comments (see my response below) Dr Phillip Olla Endowed Phillips Chair of Management School of Business Madonna University 36600 Schoolcraft rd Livonia 48150 ________________________________ From: Stephane Boyera [mailto:boyera@w3.org] Sent: Mon 8/24/2009 10:16 PM To: Olla, Phillip Cc: public-mw4d@w3.org Subject: Re: Roadmap section 7.2 Hi Philipp, Thanks for that. few comments: could you add sections about tools and examples ? it is important ot mention if free and open source tools are available. Phil: I have added this section few other comments: you state '* There is a cost to setting up a CB center used to compose and deliver the messages onto the mobile network for delivery to the handsets. ' could you elaborate ? Phil: Done.: The costs is basically the network operators for setting up the equipment what is the cost of setting up a service ? Phil : This is difficult to find as the equipment providers have not been very forthcomming with this information. what is the cost of sending a msg ? Phil: Free to receice and send if the operator has the correct equipment. does the software provider needs to deal with the operator, or anybody can setup his cb as he wants, like for sms ? is it operator-based ? Phil : No only an operator can send out the message, however they can provide access to the platform to a third part content provider. It is operator based, each operator will send messages out to anyone on the network. mean if you want to cover 3 operators you have to set 3 systems more or less like for ussd? Phil : This is correct about 'There are numerous handsets that do not have the capability to support cell broadcast' could you elaborate too ? what are the requirements ? is it relevant to low-end phones ? is it a matter of how recent are the phones or how powerful they are? it is important to give a sense to the reader Phil : its a bit more complicated, but I have added a section that explains why this happens.
