I want to be clear that I'm not against a new symbol simply because it's new. But for any "standard" to be adopted, there needs to be compelling reasons to adopt it -- or migrate away from an existing symbol. Right now, we have informal standards in place, such as the globe. I would like to see more compelling data (anecdotal or otherwise) why these informal standards are so flawed. Over-use isn't, in my view, enough of a reason not to use a globe icon. The companies that I'm in touch with that use it do not see usability flaws. John Yunker jyunker@bytelevel.com +1 (760) 300-3620 Twitter: @johnyunker Blog: www.globalbydesign.com
