RE: SHEI - Qui tacet consentit

Thanks for compiling this wiki page.

I want to be clear on one of the objections to the globe icon:

1. It is over-used.

Over-use of an icon is not necessarily a bad thing. For starters, it means the icon is partially already being used to indicate "language" or "locale." I've done plenty of research on this and can point you to a wide range of companies that already use a globe icon for this purpose.

But it is indeed over-used. However, if we can push it as a standard I do believe we can provide guidance across industries so that this icon is limited to this one application. Frankly, it's going to be far easier to standardize than to introduce a new icon.

2. One will have to create a new glyph

I'm a little confused as to why this is an objection. SHEI may be a Unicode glyph, but do we have data that shows most computers have the fonts to support the display of this glyph? I haven't checked but I'm doubtful this is the case.

And couldn't we work with the Unicode Consortium to introduce a new "globe" icon glyph in the next update? They've certainly opened the door with Emoji - and I believe there is an Earth icon in the emoji group, though I could be wrong on this.
