Dear members of the Media Working Group, I'm relaying the following announcement that was sent to W3C Advisory Committee Representative earlier today, to notify the group of the new charter approval and call for participation. With kind regards, Xueyuan Jia, Marketing & Communications -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Call for Participation: Media Working Group Charter approved; Join the Media WG Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2025 19:11:54 +0800 From: Xueyuan Jia <xueyuan@w3.org> To: w3c-ac-members@w3.org Dear Advisory Committee Representative, [This announcement will be forwarded to W3C group chairs] W3C is pleased to announce the recharter of the Media Working Group. https://www.w3.org/2025/07/media-wg-charter.html The group is chartered through 31 July 2027. The mission of the Media Working Group is to develop and improve client-side media processing and playback features on the Web. Please use the following form to have your organization join the group. The form will also instruct you how to nominate participants: https://www.w3.org/groups/wg/media/join/ Please consider diversity when proposing people to participate in W3C groups. Representation from a wider group of people, especially people from under-represented groups, is vital for creating web standards that meet the needs of the wider web community. Current participants are not required to rejoin this group because the charter includes no new deliverables that require W3C Patent Policy licensing commitments. The group chairs are Marcos Caceres (Apple) and Chris Needham (BBC). The Staff Contact is François Daoust <fd@w3.org> for a total of 0.1 FTE. More information about the group can be found on the group home page: https://www.w3.org/groups/wg/media/ [...] To see all changes relative to the proposed charter, follow this link: https://services.w3.org/htmldiff?doc1=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2025%2F06%2Fmedia-wg-charter.html&doc2=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2025%2F07%2Fmedia-wg-charter.html To see all changes relative to the previous charter, follow this link: https://services.w3.org/htmldiff?doc1=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2023%2F06%2Fmedia-wg-charter.html&doc2=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2025%2F07%2Fmedia-wg-charter.html This announcement follows section 5.7.2 of the W3C Process Document: https://www.w3.org/policies/process/20231103/#ACReviewAfter and the Call for Participation follows section 4.4 of the W3C Process Document: https://www.w3.org/policies/process/20231103/#cfp Thank you, For Philippe le Hégaret, W3C Strategy and Project Lead, François Daoust, Media WG Staff Contact; Xueyuan Jia, W3C Marketing & Communications [1] https://github.com/w3ctag/design-reviews/issues/1082#issuecomment-2884345629 [2] https://www.w3.org/TR/encrypted-media/#implementation-requirements [3] https://www.w3.org/TR/encrypted-media/#security [4] https://www.w3.org/TR/encrypted-media/#privacy
