Hi all, Following the call for consensus and merging of changes around registries, I'm pleased to report that WebCodecs has now been officially adopted by the Media WG. Congratulations to the group and spec editors! Practically speaking, the GitHub repo was migrated to the W3C org and renamed to drop the hyphen (for consistency with other specs that start with "web"), and the boilerplate adjusted in the spec. The new repository is at: https://github.com/w3c/webcodecs I note that the spec has been split into three specs as a result of setting up the registry: - the main WebCodecs spec: https://w3c.github.io/webcodecs - the WebCodecs Codec Registry: https://w3c.github.io/webcodecs/codec_registry.html - the AVC (H.264) WebCodecs Registration https://w3c.github.io/webcodecs/avc_codec_registration.html I will now work with the editors to have these three documents published as First Public Working Drafts. Please note that only the main WebCodecs spec is intended to become a normative W3C Recommendation. The Codec registry and companion registration are intended to become non-normative W3C Working Group Notes (in other words, they will not be published on the Recommendation track). This is identical to the way MSE and EME registries are maintained. As discussed in previous Media WG calls, that is not ideal, but that is the most pragmatic approach until the W3C process gets possibly updated to cater for registries.
