I believe the original intent of [`isTypeSupported()`](https://w3c.github.io/mediacapture-record/MediaRecorder.html#dom-mediarecorder-istypesupported) was closely modeled on [`MediaSource.isTypeSupported()`](https://w3c.github.io/media-source/#dom-mediasource-istypesupported) of the Media Source Extensions, and the latter is a Candidate Recommendation.
