Introduction

Dear all,

I am Werner Bailer [1], working as a researcher at the Institute of
Information Systems and Information Management of JOANNEUM REASEARCH [2]
in Graz, Austria. I am working on a PhD thesis on multimedia content
abstraction. I have a background in image and video processing,
summarisation and metadata modelling for audiovisual content.

I am working on projects dealing with audiovisual archiving (e.g. [3]),
search and summarisation in audiovisual data bases and development of
new tools and workflows for media production (e.g. [4]). In many of
these projects we have used MPEG-7 and this has led to the proposal of
the Detailed Audiovisual Profile (DAVP) [5], that tries to define the
semantics of MPEG-7 description elements in a certain application
context. I've then also contributed to work on formalising these
constraints in order to enable automatic validation of MPEG-7 documents
w.r.t profile semantics (cf. [6]). Together with Michael Hausenblas (who
some of you might know from other W3C activities such as MM Semantics XG
and RDFa) I have proposed ramm.x [7], a lightweight approach for
deploying multimedia metadata on the Web.

This is my first involvement in a W3C WG and I'm looking forward to
working with you.
