Dear all, as we discussed in the last telecon: here is my introductory email. I am currently working as a researcher at the Semantic Technology Institute (STI) at the University of Innsbruck [1]. At STI, which was formerly known as DERI Innsbruck and which I joined part-time already in 2006, I am mainly working on the European project SALERO [2] which investigates and develops solutions for the use of semantic technologies in media production and for which we realize life cycle support for semantic content. This ranges from ontology management tools to end user support for annotation to semantic search facilities. And yes: we also build some ontologies there. Another project in which I am working on is the European project ACTIVE [3] which investigates the use of semantic and Web 2.0 technologies for knowledge management in enterprises. I am mainly working on economic issues (cost, benefits) of ontologies there [4]. Before joining STI as a full time member I have been working for 3,5 years as a researcher and project manager in the area of digital media and Semantic Web technologies in an applied research institute working on and leading projects in the field of multimedia analysis, (semantic) video indexing and Semantic Web topics. These projects included amongst others the Smart Content Factory [5] in which I had the technical co-lead and which developed an automatic semantified indexing and Web publication workflow for news videos coming from an Austrian broadcaster. Another project is the European LIVE project [6] which is still running and in which I was amongst others working on a semantic middleware to manage and distribute knowledge about live broadcasted media events in order to personalize the broadcasted information in real time. I also have been involved in the W3C Multimedia Semantics Incubator group [7], in the multimedia ontology initiative of the Acemedia project [8] and in an initative of the Austrian Computer Society (OCG) on interoperable metadata [9]. Additionally I am in the third year of my PhD working on semantic description facilities for multimedia content on the Web. As you can easily see: my research interest is on topics in the area of multimedia semantics and there primarily on the combination of multimedia and Semantic Web technologies. But is not limited to that. If you want to have more information on the projects I worked on or my publications then please feel free to ask or visit my homepage [10]. Looking forward to work with you in this working group.
