I’ve reviewed again, and the questions generically probe the border between display and non-display already as there are several examples of “Can I <manipulate or derive data> before displaying in <mechanism> to <internal/external>?” but I have tried to add some more below… as well as others which (again) may or may not be welcome at this time! Internal Access to Data Am I allowed to distribute to majority owned affiliates? Am I allowed to distribute to minority owned affiliates? If I cancel a service, am I required to purge the data I am storing in my systems from that service? Can I subscribe to real-time/delayed/snapshot data and persist my own historical repository of data from this service? Can I download data from a terminal and store on a network drive for personal access? Can I download data from a terminal and store on a network drive for my team to access? Can I share my access to the service with colleagues? Can I use the service for price validation? Redistribution of Data How many slides containing your data can I put into a client presentation? When sending raw/source data externally, what accreditation and disclaimers am I required to use (if any)? Derived Data Can I create manipulated / reverse-calculable data and redistribute that externally? Can I create derived data and then display it on a public website? Is data commingled from a single source classed as derived data by that source provider? Reporting How long do I have to maintain records of usage/entitlement for including after termination? Does the vendor have the right to audit me? How far back can the vendor audit me? What interest and fees can an audit attract? Termination How much notice do I need to give to cancel the service? In what situations would I be allowed to cancel the service early? In what situations would you be allowed to terminate our access to your service? Takes us up to 36 - only 14 to go. Added two categories too. I've updated the test cases here: https://github.com/w3c/market-data-odrl-profile/blob/gh-pages/Test-Cases.md Would be great if we could get some questions that probe the border between display and non-display use such as: Can I convert currencies before displaying in a widget? Trials / Free of Fees ** Can I entitle my internal developers for free? Can I entitle my IT Support / Market Data staff for free? Can I get a free trial access for any user? Can I get a free trial access for applications within development? Do I need to declare and/or pay for data utilisation within my development or UAT environement? Disaster Recovery Do I need to declare and/or pay for data utilisation within my business continuity / disaster recovery environements? Redistribution of Data Can I send some data, in charts and/or tables, in a non-editable electronic or hardcopy format, in a client portfolio performance or valuation report to 2000 clients, on a monthly basis? Can I send some data, in charts and/or tables, in a non-editable electronic or hardcopy format, in marketing materials to 5000 prospective clients, on an ad-hoc basis? Can I send some data, in charts and/or tables, in an email or tweet/other social media post, as marketing to an unlimited number of current and prospective clients, on a weekly basis? Internal Distribution of Data (“Control”?) Can I publish a particular raw real-time/delayed/intraday/end of day data set to an application which does not provide the ability to control and report those downstream users and/or applications? Reporting What is the unit of count I need to report? How often do I need to report? Derived Data Can I create a structured product using data as underlying? Can I create manipulated / reverse-calculable data and redistribute that internally? Reporting What is the unit of count I need to report? How often do I need to report? Michelle Roberts, Richard Mundell, and Jeremy Green have started the list, their entries can be found here: https://github.com/w3c/market-data-odrl-profile/blob/gh-pages/Test-Cases.md We’d like to get to 50 distinct test cases before we present. I’m going to add a few more via this email that will take us to 25 total. If you have one, two, or five data licensing “can I do this” questions that you can add, please just reply with them to this email thread. We’ll spend some time discussing them next Wednesday, and then add them (and any others we come up with on the call next week) to the master list. Here are my suggestions: Access of Data Am I (or is my firm) entitled to access a particular date range of historical content? Redistribution of Data Can I entitle my internal developers for free? Can I publish a particular real-time data set to a public (unauthenticated) website or widget? Can I publish a particular real-time data set to an authenticated website or widget? Can I publish a particular delayed data set to a public (unauthenticated) website or widget? Can I publish a particular delayed data set to an authenticated website or widget? Derived Data Can I create a tradeable CFD instrument using one or more particular data sets? Can I create a non-tradable product containing one or more particular data sets for use as input to pricing evaluation of physical products? Can I distribute my tradable derived instrument as a white-labeled product? Bonus points for creating a whole new category. Looking forward to seeing what we come up with.
