You'll apply your world-class research and engineering skills and experience to problems of data discovery, cleansing, summarisation and integration, and be instrumental in shaping the ODI's response to these challenges. Drawing on your expertise and experience in computer science research and large-scale data engineering, you'll be ideally placed to make unique and high-impact contributions to this emerging field. Your deliverables will be project-specific, but include the following: - Novel techniques and algorithms for solving open data problems - High quality open source code - Prototype systems with product potential - Technical reports and publishable research papers With a PhD in computer science; or another data-intensive, numerate discipline; or equivalent professional experience in an academic or commercial research environment, you must be able to demonstrate exceptional knowledge of data mining, hands on experience of large-scale data engineering and a solid grounding in the field of open data. Strong written and oral communication skills will also be essential for success in this role, as will a passion for data collection management and analysis whilst evidencing best practice. Addressing this issue requires effective and scalable techniques for data summarisation and characterisation. Produce a report, maximum 2 pages, outlining how you would approach this topic from a research perspective. Some example issues to consider include: which features to extract from the data; how to combine these into a summary of the dataset; how to engineer this to work at scale. Closing date for applications: 12:00pm (BST), 30 April 2015 First stage interviews : TBC Second stage interviews : TBC Note to Applicants Non-EU Nationals please note - The ODI has a legal responsibility to ensure that all employees are entitled to live and work in the UK.
