Full details here: http://www.agrixchange.org/sam-workshop/semantic-web-and- For access without coming to SmartAgrimatics, get an eventbrite ticket here: http://swaf12.eventbrite.co.uk/ Objectives The workshop will focus on the ways semantic web and related technologies (ontologies, linked data, etc.) can be used across the food and agriculture supply chain to facilitate the exchange of information and enable the creation of additional services for farmers, transporters and processors of food, retailers and final consumers, in effect the whole supply chain. Supply chain integration is a holy grail in many industries but given the specific challenges of the agri-food sector and its importance to society, to the economy, and to the environment, such integration is vital. Semantic technologies, ontologies and related technologies have grown considerably in maturity in recent years. This workshop seeks papers presenting all aspect of these technologies ranging from position papers to implemented systems and their evaluation. We are particularly interested in examples where semantic technologies are used to cross the boundaries between sub-sectors of the agri-food production and supply chain. Discussions of existing or proposed ontologies are welcome. Format The workshop will last all day but is planned in two parts. The morning will be devoted to presentations and working demos until lunch time. After lunch a VoCamp and hackathon session will be run until late where we hope to undertake some hands-on work, possibly guided by the papers presented in the morning. Papers proposing specific tasks for the afternoon are also welcome as lightning talks (10 minutes). We hope to use and connect datasets with each other around a (fictional or real) use case. Depending on the results a final wrap-up might reveal the next steps necessary to organize further cooperation. More details about the hackathon will be available on our wiki here: http://csi.aston.ac.uk/projects/saf/wiki/doku.php?id=semantic_workshop Content Final programme: Time Speaker Title 11:00 - 11:20 Philippe Loopuyt Vision and use of semantic web by the European Commission for the food safety, plant and animal health policies 11:20 - 11:40 Huub Scholten Semantic Interoperability in Agri-Food Supply Networks 11:40 - 12:00 Yves Jaques and Johannes Keizer Creating Knowledge Bases by annotating large amounts of unstructured data using RDF triples and the AGROVOC concept scheme - the agHARVEST project 12:00 - 12:20 Patrick Jackman, Andrew Brass, Derek Scuffell, Robert Stevens and Bruce Grieve Modelling Online Crop Disease Monitoring with Web Semantics and an Information Study Assay Type Ontology 13:30 - 13:50 Tomasz Kluza and Jerzy Weres Agroontology.com – Internet-based Knowledge Center (IKC) as an implementation of the Semantic Web Knowledge Representation (KR) standards within the sample domain of grain drying process 13:50 - 14:10 Carlos Viegas Damásio and Paula Borrego Leonor AgroCompanion (report on the development of a Semantic Web app for agronomists) 14:10 - 14:30 Michael Nørremark and Claus Grøn Sørensen Geospatial data infrastructure for agricultural machines and FMIS in planning, execution and evaluation of field operations 14:30 - 14:50 Monika Solanki Building Ontologies for Algal Biomass Operations 14:50 - 15:10 Daniel Martini and Mario Schmitz A flexible approach to agricultural documentation using the agroRDF vocabulary 15:15 Start of Hackathon
