Thanks, I wasn't aware of this initiative. But it seems the Open Location
Code people were, because What3words is mentioned in their comparison of
location encoding systems

the secion 'Web-based services').

I like the idea of using natural language words for accurately identifying
a location, because words are easy to remember. But words are best
remembered in one's native language. I have just looked up the three
English words for my house but I have already forgotten them.

Anyway, this does show there are many ways of identifying a location next
to geometry and address.
