Hi Phil and well met Michael and Andrea. From the Australian position - well secured - a solid and truely expert lead on this activity can only bode well. On behalf of the *.gov.au spatial community here, we (and with no presumptions - I've already forwarded to Chris Body and the OSP - I'm sure Chris will be very happy with the outcome - he always speaks highly of our INSPIRE collegues) look forward to working with Michael and Andrea on this important piece of work. That's because we've been working to get the right chairs in place. I am delighted to say that this has now happened and that we're ready to go. The CG will be co-chaired by Michael Lutz and Andrea Perego of the European Commission's Digital Earth and Reference Data Unit [1]. That's a mouthful but it means that Michael, Andrea and their colleagues are the people responsible for developing the INSPIRE Guidelines. For non-Europeans, that's a set of guidelines/standards for representing geospatial and environmental data that Member States are legally obliged to use. Between now and Christmas, Michael and Andrea will prepare some materials on the group's wiki designed to survey the current standards in use and attitudes towards them. That will be in important starting point for the group. So... thank you for you patience, expect to see this mailing list get into swing with a few messages in the coming weeks and a lot more in the new year.
