The "issues and recommendations" group continues to meet and to edit the wiki page. [1] Our recent discussions have surfaced some ideas that we think are important and that need wider input. To begin with, we have added something that hasn't been on the agenda before, which is the benefit to LD space in general from the participation of libraries. Presumably, W3C was aware of this benefit when it commissioned the LLD WG -- that the entire LD space has to gain from library participation. Thus: * LLD has value for the whole LD space In fact, there could be particular roles for libraries in this space, building on their traditional role as preserver of culture: * Libraries have a role to play as stable entities that can guarantee the long-term preservation and access to Semantic Web vocabularies (There will be a longer write-up of this concept coming soon) We also want the report to acknowledge the value of collaborative development and the advantages this has in helping libraries to transition from pre-SW to SW data models: * LLD needs to develop within the context of the LD space, not in a library RDF silo; connections need to be made between library data and LD cloud data * LLD needs to use a collaborative process that is public and not limited to library personnel * Library data model needs experimentation and iteration. Do not assume that models are RDF-friendly until that is tested, and be willing to make adjustment if needed.[2] We also want to make clear that our use of the word "library" does not limit the report to formal institutions with "library" in their name, but anyone providing library-like services. Thus, a definition is needed, and we propose for discussion: "Library in this report refers to a collection of information resources curated for a designated community and providing services around those resources. In this definition, libraries may be public or private, large or small, and are not limited to any particular types of resources." We think these are new concepts for the group, and want to get feedback on them.
