I guess it should give me and others possibly interested enough information to process =) In case someone reading haven't investigate XMPP - Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (http://xmpp.org) often people refer to it as 'jabber'. Used for instant messaging in gtalk, also foundation for Apache Wave (former Google Wave). Among many extensions it has PubSub, considered by many as rather solid. Lately some distributed social networking projects take advantage of its 'native' federation.
