Hi all, I had a look at "Best Practice 9: Provide a way to specify unique identifiers". My high-level feedback is the following: 1. Quote>Provide a way to assign a unique identifier to translatable text. Should we really have the restriction "to translatable text"? I guess that for example having identifiers for XML elements which are related to graphics (eg. "img") would be beneficial from an i18n point of view as well - amongst others since you may want to leverage "translated/localized" graphics as well. 2. Quote> Make sure the attribute xml:id, or an equivalent attribute, is available, at least, the "paragraph" level, for the elements that contain translatable text. I guess we need to clarify what the features of an "equivalent attribute" are. Would we simply point to http://www.w3.org/TR/2005/REC-xml-id-20050909/#validation-technologies? Why the restriction "at least paragraph" level? 3. Quote>In order to most effectively reuse translated text where content is reused (either across update versions or across deliverables) it is necessary to have a unique and persistent identifier associated with the element. Fromy my point of view, "reuse" is only one of several motivators. Another motivator is for example the possibility to trace a text to its use (for example in a UI). Wouldn't "update" or "iteration" be clearer than "update version"? I guess we need to clarify what the features of a "persistent identifier" are. === Cheers, Christian Christian Lieske MultiLingual Technology Solutions (MLT) SAP Language Services (SLS) SAP Globalization Services SAP AG Dietmar-Hopp-Allee 16 D-69190 Walldorf Germany T +49 (62 27) 7 - 6 13 03 F +49 (62 27) 7 – 2 54 18 christian.lieske@sap.com <blocked::mailto:christian.lieske@sap.com> http://www.sap.com <blocked::http://www.sap.com/> Sitz der Gesellschaft/Registered Office: Walldorf, Germany Vorstand/SAP Executive Board: Henning Kagermann (Sprecher/CEO), Léo Apotheker (stellvertretender Sprecher/Deputy CEO), Werner Brandt, Claus Heinrich, Gerhard Oswald, Peter Zencke Vorsitzender des Aufsichtsrats/Chairperson of the SAP Supervisory Board: Hasso Plattner Registergericht/Commercial Register Mannheim No HRB 350269 Diese E-Mail kann Betriebs- oder Geschäftsgeheimnisse oder sonstige vertrauliche Informationen enthalten.
