Teleconference Minutes 2007-01-17

Minutes for the I18NITS Meeting on 2007-01-17

Attendees:
Christian Lieske
Sebastian Rahtz
Yves Savourel

Regrets:
Felix and Jirka.

Agenda:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/member-i18n-its/2007JanMar/0033.html

Yves had trouble with its connection and came late. Then he couldn't get
IRC to start the scribing, so the minutes were taken the 'old fashion':
with pencil and paper.

=== Action Items

> -01 [NEW]: Editors to remove the <ns> feature from
> the ITS draft.

Still pending.

> -02 [NEW]: Felix to post a proposal for both attribute
> notations on the span element.

Still pending.

> -03 [NEW]: Yves to rewrite sec. 5.4, group to discuss it
> on the list. Done here:
>
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-i18n-its/2007JanMar/0004.html
> See also the related responses.

The latest proposal from CL looked fine.

Yves: Concern about having possible rules not covered by the precedence
order.

Sebastian: The example case of using PI is a bit like using Xinclude and
we talked about it already, noting that we work at the infoset level.

Yves: Yes, see second paragraph of section 1.4
(http://www.w3.org/TR/its/#design-decisions), we say Its processor may
or may not process things like Xinclude. Same with PI. So Christian's
note seems fine to me now.

Resolution: re-worded text for this section is the one Christian
proposed here:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-i18n-its/2007JanMar/0013.html

New action item: Editors to implement the change in the specification

> -04 [PENDING]: Christian to send an update
> with Yves' feedback on AI 03.

Same issue as above. Same resolution.

> -05 [PENDING]: Editors to add to a draft s.t. about the
> output of ITS processing.

Christian posted a proposal here:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-i18n-its/2007JanMar/0014.html

Christian: Propose to add a note in the conformance section that points
to the formal definition of the results and says that if one want to
validate their implementation, getting that output is a way to do it.

Sebastian: the formal representation is the DTD. But there are a few
things still not quite defined yet, like the name of the data categories
labels, what to do with locNote inheritance, etc. Some of the process
needs more explanations. Another possible issue is the Namespace
difference during compare.

Yves: Yes.

New action item: Felix to see if the comparison tool can be smarter
about namespace compare.

New action item: Yves to list the result issues to see how we can
address them.

> -06 [PENDING]: Editors to go to the draft and check
> that there are no "CSS style elements" or the like.

Still pending

> -07 [PENDING]: Yves to make an inheritance & overriding
> example for Andrzej and send it to him, both verify that
> inheritance works the right way.
> Partially done: Yves' example is here:
>
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-i18n-its/2006OctDec/0081.html

Still pending.

New action item: Yves to re-ask Andrzej about it.

=== Discussions:

> - Test suite
> Comparison of the results.
> See the test files here: http://www.w3.org/International/its/tests/

Sebastian: Almost done. The remaining issues seems to be linked to not
being able to dereference.

Yves: Worst case would be only Implementation #2 and #3 do it and that
should be OK.

> - Other remaining issues:
>
http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/buglist.cgi?query_format=specific&order=re
> levance+desc&bug_status=__open__&product=ITS

All opened bugs are related to issue being resolved in current action
items.

> - Best Practices

Yves: Having compile problem. Changing machine anyway so I'll be
re-trying this week.

> - Other business
> We need to start thinking about the dates and
> place for the next face-to-face meeting.

Christian: Will be looking if SAP can host it.
